3 Things to Consider When Designing Your Dream Outdoor Oasis

As Winter thaws into Spring, it’s time to prepare your outdoor space. Just like indoor living space, outdoor areas serve different purposes and intentionally designing those areas will help you make the most of your space. To begin planning, consider the purpose of your space, the furniture needed in each area and ways to add color, texture and your personality with flowers, textiles, rugs and accessories.

Below, we’ll embark on a journey through the ideal summer day in the backyard…

Daytime Leisure

Starting with time in the sun, this space could feature various amenities such as a pool, hot tub, or even a charming water fountain. Furnishing your sunny retreat with comfortable lounge chairs invites you to bask in the sunlight, whether you’re engrossed in a book or simply indulging in a rejuvenating nap.

Enhance the ambiance with vibrant planters brimming with your favorite sun-loving flowers. Continue to add layers of texture and color with fabrics, pillows, and rugs.

When you’re ready to seek respite from the sun’s rays while still relishing the outdoors, a designated shade area becomes essential. This can be achieved through the addition of a pergola, a well designed patio under large trees or simply an umbrella.

Outdoor Dining

After spending the day splashing in the pool or relaxing with a book, it’s time to eat! Consider a kitchen and dining area when planning your outdoor oasis. This could be an additional kitchen built into the patio or directly off your indoor kitchen for ease of serving.

Keep in mind how you like to entertain and how many people. Do you need an extendable table? Do you want to keep the mess outdoors? Will you host a large pizza party?

Evening Ambiance

As your perfect summer day comes to a close, why not wind down by the fire (don’t forget s’mores for the kids!) and watch the sunset? A fire feature and comfortable seating is a must when designing the ultimate outdoor living space. The right fabric, cushions, and ambient lighting will help define this space and make it the perfect place to end your day.

We also suggest landscape lighting to add to the nighttime drama. Not sure you want a fire feature? Consider adding a beautiful heat lamp (yes, they do exist. Just ask) to take the chill out of the air.
