Why Light & Color Must Work Together for High-End Home Design

Are you looking for an easy update for your home?  One of the easiest things to make a quick difference is to paint your interiors.  Not only does it “clean” up the space, but it can also make it look entirely different (especially if you move art and furniture around).  When deciding to update your colors, select the right colors based on the temperature of your light bulbs and natural light.

Shifting Lights & Colors

Perhaps you’ve encountered this: You pick a beautiful swatch at the paint store, but once you start painting, you realize it looks terrible in the space. This is not uncommon. The type of lighting, whether natural or from fixtures, can dramatically affect the color. Shifting light is why we ALWAYS test and live with the color for at least a day!

Notice the Sunlight’s Impact

When selecting a color, test the swatches in the room and see how the light changes throughout the day to see if you’ll be happy with it in the morning or evening. Consider the time of day the room is primarily used and evaluate the color then.

Intentionally Select Artificial Light

When it comes to light bulbs, you must be careful and intentional.  If you want cool colors and crisp light, look for bulbs in the higher temperature range of 6000k and up.  If you like a more natural light, select bulbs at the 4000k temperature.  And if you prefer warmth, start in the 3000k range.  More importantly, make sure the color temperature is consistent throughout your home!

Stress-Saving Swatches

One of our favorite ways to test paint is to use the company Samplize or order large swatches from our vendors.  Samplize provides large stickers of the actual paint swatch so you know exactly what you are getting.
